Do you Have Enough Time?

I have a feeling that I’m going to be quoting Rachel Hollis in a lot of my upcoming blog posts – but, seriously? Why wouldn’t I? Her book, “Girl, Stop Apologizing”, is amazing!!! It’s like every time I turn around, I’m making notes! If I had the physical book, I’d probably be highlighting almost everything! And, actually, this book is so good, I’m probably going to go out and buy it!!!

Time. It’s a funny thing. We never seem to have enough. Get up, make lunches, have breakfast, coffee, commute, work, lunch, work, commute, dinner, relax, bed… and that’s if you don’t have children! Most of my coworkers have children of various ages – one has 4 children!!! Yikes! I can’t even imagine!

It’s so easy for life to get in the way of working towards your goals… but you know what? People do it all the time – whether or not they have children. Whether or not they work one or two jobs. Whether their commute is 15 minutes or an hour and 15 minutes… each way! It’s about priority. They have the same number of minutes in each day as every other person out there, so it can be done!

When it comes right down to it, you would probably be astounded at the amount of time you waste. Sitting and relaxing is all well and good – and, let’s face it, we all need some down time to regroup and detox, but how long do we really, actually need? Or what can you do that accomplishes a couple things at the same time? For me, I find art almost like a meditation – so not only am I creating something and expanding my portfolio, but I’m also relaxing. I also have a 2+ hour a day commute, and since I can’t read a book on public transit, I’ve started getting audio books – so not only am I getting to work, but I’m working on personal development! And there’s yoga – I take it on my lunch time but it also detoxes, relaxes, and recharges me. And the gym after work – I’m making my body stronger and it’s an amazing stress release. When you’re making dinner, instead of sitting and vegging waiting for water to boil – or whatever – why not do the dishes and clean the kitchen – that way, cleaning will be minimal after dinner, freeing time to do what you want!

There’s so many ways to become more efficient that will free up more time in order to pursue things that really matter to you. I know I spend WAY too much time on social media, just scrolling and checking out other peoples lives on IG, watching videos on FB, and ideas on Pinterest. Or playing games on my phone – though since deleting 2 of the 3 games I had, I’m definitely much better!

I challenge you! For 3 days – one weekend day, and 2 work days – to log everything you do as accurately as possible. Going to an event? Include the amount of time it takes you to get ready to go and driving time. This will bring awareness to how you spend the time you have and what you can change to be more efficient and free up time for your goals!
